Carol’s Daughter Fooled Me
I remember going to the Carol’s Daughter store at Lenox Square Mall when they’d just released their Hair Milk line and I noticed that all of the women featured on the Hair Milk marketing materials had loose, type 3 curls. All the while, I thought Carol’s Daughter products were made for really kinky, curly, coiled hair. But when Carol’s Daughter released a photo of their newest spokesmodels, I realized that I was half wrong.
The new Carol’s Daughter spokesmodels are Selita Ebanks, Solange Knowles and Cassie. Each of these women are gorgeous. However, I would never expect two of the three to represent this company. First, Selita Ebanks’s hair is relaxed. As I mentioned previously, I thought Carol’s Daughter products were made for women of color with natural hair. As a former natural, I would never buy a product sold by a woman with relaxed hair, and I’m sure many natural women feel the same way. Second, Cassie is far from who I’d expect to see on this ad. I personally don’t see her as a role model. She hasn’t gained much of a positive reputation for me to look up to her. Solange, on the other hand, I absolutely love! I believe she represents Carol’s Daughter best. I would absolutely buy from her.
By the way, I’m not the only one who feels this way! Read what more Carol’s Daughter fans had to say on Facebook!
